Frequently Asked Questions

What types of services does DV Therapy offer?

At DV Therapy, we proudly offer a range of services including Speech Therapy,  Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and Occupational Therapy to support your child’s development across multiple areas of need.

What locations do you Service?

We currently serve the following five areas while also offering teletherapy options as well.

  • Bakersfield, CA
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Palmdale, CA
  • Santa Fe Springs, CA
  • West Covina, CA

What does your intake and assessment process look like?

Once we receive a referral or inquiry, our intake team will reach out to guide you through the intake process. You can expect this to include the following:

  • Verifying insurance
  • Completing intake forms
  • Scheduling an initial assessment if needed
  • Scheduling recurring appointments

During the assessment, one of our licensed therapists will evaluate your child’s needs to develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to their goals.

Do you take insurance? What happens if my insurance does not cover your services OR my insurance only covers part of the services needed?

Yes, we absolutely do take insurance. We also understand that insurance changes can happen often. When they do, please notify your direct scheduler as soon as possible by providing the new insurance card information so that we can verify your updated benefits.

  • Any balances not covered by your insurance will be billed directly to you.
  • Thank you for helping us ensure smooth, continuous coverage for your services.
  • Copays are due at the beginning or end of each session. If a copay is not collected for any reason, you will be notified and billed on a later date.

How do cancellations and make-up appointments work?

Cancellations on the part of the provider or client may occur during a service period.  In order to ensure that a client receives all recommended hours for therapy services, scheduling make-up sessions is crucial to accomplishing this goal. In the event of a provider cancellation (i.e., clinician cancels), DV Therapy will make attempts to provide an alternative therapist to hold the session at the originally designated time. In the event of a client cancellation (e.g., client is sick), DV Therapy will offer dates to make-up the therapy session. In this scenario, the therapist available may be an alternative therapist.

What is your cancellation policy?

To ensure consistent care and fairness to all families, DV Therapy has the following policies in place:

  • 12-Hour Notice: If you must cancel an appointment for any reason, you must provide at least 12 hours’ notice prior to the scheduled appointment by phone, text, or in person.
  • Late Cancellations or No-Shows: If the office does not receive timely notice, the cancellation will be considered a last minute cancellation and subject to a $60 fee. This fee must be paid prior to the next session/appointment.
  • Rescheduling: The $60 fee may be waived if the cancelled session is rescheduled within 14 days of the original appointment.
  • Emergencies/Illness: If you cancel within 12 hours due to an emergency or illness, you must provide proof of the emergency or a doctor’s note to avoid the $60 cancellation fee.
  • If your child is sick and has another appointment scheduled for the following day, that appointment will automatically be cancelled and reassigned to another client. If your child feels better, you may contact the office to check availability for the appointment slot.

What are your attendance requirements?

We do in fact require a certain level of attendance. Please see below:

  • 80% Attendance: Families are required to maintain at least 80% attendance and above.
  • Speech & Occupational Therapy Clients: Two or more last-minute cancellations or no-shows in a 6-month period may result in termination of services and a return to your funding source.
  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Clients: Four or more last-minute cancellations or no-shows within a 6-month period may also result in termination of services and a return to your funding source.

Failure to meet attendance standards may lead to reduced hours, service holds, or discontinuation of services.

Can you give me more guidance as to what I can expect to see for each session for my child and what is expected of me as a parent?

Sessions are carefully pre-planned for your child. Your child will work directly with the therapist for the bulk of the session, leaving 10 minutes at the end to talk with the parent and/or write a brief treatment note. Please be considerate of the therapist’s schedule as he/she may have another session following yours. If you require an extended conversation with your speech therapist, you may schedule a time for a meeting or phone conference.

Carry-over of treatment goals and progress into your child’s natural environment and routine is critical for maximum progress. For parents who are not able to participate in sessions, a communication plan should be determined directly with the therapist at the start of treatment and modified as needed during the course of treatment. Options include email, notebooks, multi-media messaging, and/or meetings.

When observing/participating in a treatment session, we would appreciate your consideration in the following:

  • Please minimize the amount of distractions during the sessions
  • Please be considerate of time constraints by keeping post session conversations short.
